To have a website running, you need a server and a hosting provider.

Generally, most hosting providers offer something called shared hosting, which, although economical, is not the most ideal for companies that want security, stability, loading speed, and power to support large web traffic.

Shared hosting, as the name implies, refers to the option of hosting your website on a small portion of a server, while the rest of the server’s resources are used by many other companies hosting their websites there.

If the amount of credits available per day are spent earlier than normal, there are two options with AWS:

• Return to base server power: Your server returns to base power, which is generally always 20% available, so you can be sure your website will continue to work, although a little slowly.
• Activate Unlimited Credits: By activating this option, your server and website will always have full power to support increased users, traffic, processes, etc. But this will have an additional cost for each hour that more credits are used after the initial daily free credits.

In this way, either option guarantees that your website hosted on AWS EC2 servers is always available and working. You no longer have to think about frozen, slow, or crashing websites. AWS guarantees 99.99% availability.

AWS Has Many Other Services — Why Not Use Those Instead of EC2?:

Although AWS has a large number of different services, many of them managed, these are generally very expensive and still require someone expert in deploying applications on the AWS cloud.

AWS managed services are excellent for medium to large companies that have the budget to finance the high costs of using those services.

For example, AWS Fargate could be used, but each hour of use is 10 times or more expensive than using an EC2. While it’s true that it doesn’t require much maintenance, the high costs make it inaccessible for medium and small companies.

In AWS, there are some services that can be viable but always require an AWS cloud deployment expert, yet don’t represent excessively high costs:

• AWS App Runner: This service can be useful if the company has a web application that is only used a few hours a week. While the total cost is high, if it’s only used a couple of hours per month, it can be relatively economical, and it avoids the constant maintenance cost of a traditional server like EC2.
• AWS Amplify: If the company’s website or web application uses modern languages, it can be hosted on AWS Amplify, which is a serverless service that charges exactly for usage time, similar to App Runner, but doesn’t require a minimum cost, so if it receives no traffic for an entire month it can come out practically free. However, when it receives heavy traffic it can be as expensive or much more expensive than AWS App Runner. And if the company needs to host more traditional technologies like WordPress or PHP, etc., it couldn’t do so on AWS Amplify.
